Meet Dr. Shirin Issa

Dr. Shirin Issa MD moved to Seattle in 2016. After receiving her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Issa completed her neurology residency at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, New York. Thereafter, she pursued an accredited headache fellowship at the Montefiore Headache Center, the first center in the world focused exclusively on the diagnosis and treatment of headache disorders and facial pain in adults and adolescents.

Since then, Dr. Issa has been committed to diagnosing, educating and helping patients lead a life uninterrupted by headaches. She joined the Montefiore Headache Center as an Assistant Professor of Neurology in 2011 and along with patient care, taught incoming headache fellows and medical residents. In 2013, she relocated to Northwest Arkansas and was the only board-certified headache specialist in the area. In a region where headache disorders remained undiagnosed and access to tertiary headache care was a challenge, Dr. Issa partnered with Mercy Hospital to develop a headache clinic exclusively dedicated to diagnosing, treating and preventing headache disorders.

Demystifying myths by educating patients that headaches are indeed not ‘normal,’ and that they most certainly can be managed, Dr. Issa works with the individual patient to determine what type of headache they have, and then customizes an approach with which patients are both comfortable and successful.

She and her family enjoy being in the Pacific Northwest. In her free time, she enjoys the culinary arts and being outdoors.
