How to Book an Online Appointment With a Migraine Specialist

Getting an appointment with a headache specialist used to mean long waits and multiple referrals. Many patients still assume they’ll be stuck waiting months to see someone who truly understands migraine.
Virtual care has changed that. At Haven Headache & Migraine Center, the process starts online, making it easier to connect with clinicians who specialize in headache medicine without commuting across the state. Our clinicians have an average of 10 years of experiance in headache medicine.
Here’s how booking an appointment works.
Start With a Free Intro Call
The first step is simple. Patients begin by scheduling a short introductory call with the Haven team.
During this call, a care navigator gathers basic information and confirms whether Haven is a good fit for your situation. They also verify insurance details and help schedule your initial consultation with a migraine specialist.
The process is designed to move quickly. Many patients are able to meet with a specialist within a few weeks, which is significantly faster than the typical wait time at traditional headache centers.
Your Initial Consultation Happens Online
The first full appointment takes place through telehealth.
This visit is an in-depth conversation with a headache specialist who focuses specifically on migraine and other headache disorders. Unlike short primary care visits, this consultation takes time to review the full picture:
- Your headache history
- Triggers and patterns
- Medications or treatments you’ve already tried
- How migraines affect work, sleep, and daily life
Once the clinician understands your case, they develop a personalized headache attack plan. That plan may include preventive medications, acute treatments, lifestyle adjustments, or referrals for procedures if needed.
If imaging, labs, or prescriptions are required, the team can coordinate those directly with your pharmacy or local providers.
Insurance Coverage at Haven
Many patients worry that specialty migraine care won’t be covered by insurance. Haven works with all major plans, including:
- Blue Shield Of California
- Anthem
- United Health
- Cigna
- Aenta
- Humana
- Health Net
- Tricare
- Medicare
Haven is in-network with major PPO plans, TriCare, and Medicare. HMO patients can be seen with an Cash basis . Note: We are in-network with Brown & Toland and Hill Physicians HMO plans.
If your plan is in-network, standard cost-sharing such as copays or deductibles typically applies to telehealth visits and procedures.
For patients without coverage, Haven also offers a cash-pay option for virtual appointments.
What Happens After Your First Appointment
Migraine treatment rarely ends with a single visit. Haven’s model focuses on ongoing support.
After the initial consultation, patients continue to track symptoms and communicate with the care team. Clinicians use this information to adjust medications, identify triggers, and refine the treatment plan over time.
If a patient needs in-person procedures such as Botox or nerve blocks, Haven can connect them with trusted providers across California or at one of our pop-up locations.
Who Can Schedule an Appointment
Haven currently treats adults living in California who are experiencing migraine or other headache disorders.
Patients do not usually need a referral if they have PPO, EPO, POS, or traditional Medicare coverage and medicare advantage PPOs. HMOs and some TRICARE plans may require a referral from a primary care provider before scheduling.
Conditions commonly treated include:
- Migraine with or without aura
- Vestibular migraine
- Cluster headaches
- Tension headaches
- Post-concussion headaches
- Chronic daily headaches
Booking Your Appointment
Scheduling is straightforward. Patients can:
- Call the Haven team directly
- Schedule a free intro call online
- Speak with a care navigator who will confirm eligibility and set up the telehealth consultation

For many patients, it’s the first time they’ve spoken with a clinician whose entire focus is headache medicine.
And often, that makes all the difference.
