At Haven, we believe that better care starts with better evidence. That's why we're proud to share that our own Alicia Chang is a co-author on a newly published study in Pain and Therapy, a peer-reviewed journal by Springer Nature.

It's also Alicia's first published paper. That's worth celebrating.

About the Study

The paper examines the safety of the Nerivio wearable device — an FDA-cleared, drug-free treatment for migraine — when patients use it more frequently than the labeled indication.

Some patients with severe or high-frequency migraine attacks need to treat multiple times a day, or every day. Until now, there wasn't strong real-world data on whether that level of use was safe.

This study answers that question.

Researchers analyzed data from 1,863 patients across the US who used Nerivio in high-frequency patterns. The findings:

  • Fewer than 1% of patients reported a device-related side effect
  • No serious adverse events occurred
  • Nearly all patients who reported a side effect continued using the device

The safety profile held even among patients who treated four or more times in a single day, or daily for a month.

What This Means for Patients

If you live with chronic migraine or frequent attacks, you may have wondered whether using a device like Nerivio more often is safe.

This study says yes.

It also reflects something we hear from patients often: the standard treatment plan doesn't always match real life. Migraine doesn't follow a schedule. Having evidence that supports flexible, as-needed use matters.

Why This Matters to Us

Haven was founded on the belief that people with migraine deserve access to the full range of evidence-based treatments — not just the ones that are easiest to prescribe.

Nerivio is one of the tools we offer. It works without medication, fits into daily life, and now has published data supporting its safety even under frequent use.

Having Alicia's name — and Haven's — in this research reflects our commitment to being part of the science, not just the recipients of it.
